River Blades Skating School competes at ISI Worlds

Hastings River Blades Skating School competed in the 2022 ISI World Recreational Team Championships Aug. 47 at Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Il. ISI Worlds is recognized as the largest annual recreational iceskating competition in the country. It offers more than 25 different skating event categories for individuals, partners, groups, and teams.

This year’s competition featured 745 skaters of all skill levels representing 59 rink teams from 15 states and Thailand, with ages ranging from 3 to 85.

River Blades competed in 70+ events at the World’s Competition. Six River Blades teams competed in the “team event” categories including ensemble, & production showcasing the skaters’ theatrical talents these exciting, themed routines included: 1st PlaceSummer Surf Beach Party on Ice 2nd PlaceRiver Blades Vogue Fashionistas 2nd PlaceThe Golden GirlsAdult Team 3rd PlaceLet’s Celebrate-Birthday Bash 3rd PlaceSchoolhouse 5th PlaceGoing to the Chapel Hastings Civic Arena River Blades skaters accumulated points over the course of the competition for the 70 events they participated in. The combined overall total points accumulated over the four days of the competition put the Hastings Civic Arena in 12th place out of 59 teams from across the country that participated. ISI offers something for every skater, from those who want to skate “just for fun” to aspiring Olympic champions.

The ISI recreational iceskating program is based on “participation, not elimination” and features numerous major recreational competitions each year, with Worlds being the largest. Among the national champions and Olympians who started in ISI programs are Jason Brown, Ashley Wagner, Gracie Gold, Kristi Yamaguchi, Michelle Kwan, Mirai Nagasu, Sasha Cohen, Evan Lysacek, Dorothy Hamill and more.

During this year’s Worlds, 2022 Olympian and U.S Champion Mariah Bell was a featured performer in the ISI Benefit Show on Aug. 6 at Edge Ice Arena. The exhibition also showcased selected performances by Worlds competitors. The ISI Benefit Show is open to all, and tickets can be purchased at skateisi.org/benefitshow.
