Work on the water tower next to Hastings High School has started with the supports being installed so the tower can be draped for sand blasting, reconditioning and painting. The tower, built in 1985,is 114 feet tall, holds 750,000 gallons of water and serves the west end of Hastings.

The plan for the tower is to get the drapes installed and remove the old paint to start the reconditioning process. The large scope of the project has meant limited information on the estimated completion time, only that it should be complete by the end of October. The outside will be sandblasted and painted; the painting process will require approximately 1,180 gallons of paint. The City of Hastings logo will be painted on the tower facing both directions of Highway 55 along with “Home of the Raiders” being painted on the side facing the high school grounds.

Work is underway on the water tower next to Hastings High School.
