Allina Health’s United and Regina Hospitals to become one hospital with two campuses

Allina Health is excited to announce United Hospital in St. Paul and Regina Hospital in Hastings, Minn. are strengthening our role together as we reimagine care delivery in the east metro. In August 2022, the two hospitals will align under one hospital license with two east metro campuses. They will be known as United Hospital and United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus.

Over the past two years, amidst the rapidly changing landscape in health care, Allina Health has embarked on a Whole Way to Better journey to better serve patients, employees and communities.

“Through the challenges of COVID19, we have learned the benefits and necessity of caring for our communities in new ways. It is our goal to make connections and improve access for patients entering our system at any of our locations,” said Jill Ostrem, president, Allina Health United Hospital and Mercy Hospital. “Watching the success of connecting Mercy Hospital and what is now known as Mercy Hospital – Unity Campus in 2017 has been inspirational. Uniting the two campuses into one hospital has strengthened our ability to care for patients in the north metro, and we look forward to utilizing this same model of care to strengthen our connected care in the east metro.”

This partnership fosters an already established relationship between the two campuses. Patients in Hastings choose United Hospital more than any other hospital for their subspecialty care needs and patients who need a higher level of care than can be provided at Regina Hospital are regularly transferred to United Hospital. Unifying into one hospital will simplify processes like transfers and billing for patients, staff members and providers.

“At the heart of this transformational journey, we remain deeply committed to serving the Hastings community. We are strengthening areas where we already provide outstanding shared services, like becoming part of the Allina Health Cancer Institute,” said Helen Strike, president, Allina Health Regina Hospital and River Falls Area Hospital. Our patients and care teams benefit from closely connected programs and services that extend between our two campuses, and this is a tremendous opportunity to serve our communities in new and exciting ways by creating more access to easy to navigate care and resources.”

After the name change, Regina Hospital will continue to maintain and support its Catholic Stewardship Agreement.
