2nd annual Drive Out Hunger golf tournament was held at the Hastings Golf Course on Monday, June 6th, raising $16,000 for Hastings Family Service. Event organizer Kelly Carter, HFS Development and Community Relations Coordinator, said the day could not have been better. “We ended up with a beautiful day for golf and 23 teams packed the course to support HFS,” said Carter. According to HFS Executive Director Amy Sutton, the need is growing as struggling families face the additional challenges of rising food and gas prices.

HFS was excited to host this event again this year at the beautiful Hastings Golf Club. Drive Out Hunger was made possible by three tournament sponsors: Farmers Insurance – Jim Allen Agency, Merchants Bank, and Smead Manufacturing; with Farmers Insurance – Katy Lind-By See GOLF OUTING, Page 5 berg Agency hosting dinner, Intek Plastics as the Swag sponsor, Regina Hospital hosting lunch, and Edward Jones – Abra Hovgaard as the Cart sponsor. Additionally, eighteen businesses sponsored holes and provided fun and freebies throughout the course.

Winning team was the Culver’s team of Brian Radke, Mike Mohrhauser, Sam Otto and Mike Wise Ladies longest drive: Mary Rock Mens longest drive: Tony Walsh Closest to the Pin: Jeff Bloedel Longest Putt: Sam Otto Hastings Ford and Hasting Chrysler sponsored the Hole in One contest, but no cars were won again this year!

The Hastings Networking Group had fun with the putting contest and Vermillion Insurance decorated a golf cart filled with fun and refreshments, and Dan Bunting was the lucky winner. Jen Fox from Spiral Brewery offered samplings before the golfing began; Graphic Design donated signs, and Plastic Printers provided signs, scorecards, and fun bag tags for all of the golfers. “Event volunteers, the staff of the Hastings Golf course, and the planning committee were instrumental in the success of the day along with great business sponsors and golfers,” said Carter. “We are grateful to be in an amazing community that jumped right in to help us make Drive Out Hunger a success!
