Hastings boys 14u Lacrosse wins Northfield Tournament

This past weekend Hastings’ 14U boys lacrosse team competed in their second tournament of the young season. After going 30, and winning the Jesse James Raid Tournament in Northfield just a few weeks ago, the team hoped to keep their momentum rolling.

On the first day of the tournament the team started out with a physical game against St. Michael/Albertville. Hastings got out to an early lead, before trading a few blows, and ultimately holding on to win a tight 43 win. They followed up the defenseheavy game with a 101 win over Northern Siege, a travel team from Wisconsin. To round out day one, the team matched up against Shakopee. After battling a hard fought first half, the Hastings offense kicked it into gear, leading the team to a 135 win. After day one, the team had secured the #1 seed in their pool.

To kick off bracket play on Sunday, the team once again faced St. Michael/Albertville. In what came to be an even closer game, Hastings won 54; thanks to a strong defensive effort and a buzzerbeating goal. In the semifinal game Hastings played Hermantown. The Raiders scored early and scored often, beating Hermantown 70, advancing to the championship game. The final game would be against Owatonna, a strong, athletic team that had only given up two goals in the tournament. The Raiders proved to be up to the test though, scoring six unanswered goals to start the game. Hastings went on to win the game 102, in a true team effort both offensively and defensively.

Through the entire tournament, Hastings had less players on roster than each of their opponents. From goalie to attack, experienced players to new players, they played as a complete team all weekend.

The Raiders lacrosse team now has an off week before they start their regular season, where they will host their home games on Todd Field.
