Phyllis Schutz 1934-2022

Phyllis Joanne Schutz of Hastings, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on May 27 with her family by her side.

She was born on Nov. 28, 1934 in Comfrey MN. After high school she went off to pursue a degree in Elementary Education from Macalester College and enjoyed her years of teaching. She met Robert Schutz and married him that same year on June 22, 1956. They were married 66 years. They started life in Lewiston, MN, had three children, and moved to Hastings, MN in 1973. She was a substitute Elementary teacher, and an active member at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, serving in Circles and on the Altar Guild.

Phyllis loved her family, enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, spending time at the cabin, building a huge fire in the fire pit, agate hunting, baking cookies or bars to serve to others with coffee, and doing puzzles.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mabel Post; siblings, Beverly Almquist and Warren Post.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Schutz; children, Paul(Patty)Schutz, Brenda (Jim) Rogers, Stephanie( Steven) Kurak; grandchildren, Rachel Schutz, Shari Schutz, Andrea Schutz, Karissa(Josh)Spinler, Nic(Amber)Koppy, Katie( Trevor)Koppy, Rebecca (Scott)Klettke, Thomas(Hazel) Rogers; great-grandchildren, Collin, Connor, Caden, Bennett, RaeLyn, Tucker, Justin, Henry; and sister, Iris Fried. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 W. 9th St. in Hastings. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.
