Donald Beissel 1935-2022

Donald “Don” Beissel, age 86 of Vermillion, died peacefully at The Terrace of Cannon Falls on Thursday morning, May 26, 2022.

Donald Mathias, the son of Peter and Josephine (Siebenaler) Beissel, was born at home in New Trier on Sep. 4, 1935. Following his education, Don was united in marriage to Virginia Wollmering on May 10, 1958. The enjoyed polka dancing in their younger years and were blessed with many memories prior to Virginia’s passing on Nov. 12, 2019. Don briefly worked in construction prior to purchasing their farm in 1959. As a lifelong farmer, Don was dedicated to the caring for the land and livestock up until his health no longer allowed. Today, the family farm is being cared for by their son, Duane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; daughter, Linda Beissel; grandson, Alexander Beissel; daughter-in-law, Deanna Beissel; son-in-law, James Green; nephews, Jeffrey Rice and Darryl Rice; brother, Peter Beissel Jr.; and by his brothers-in-law, Wayne Beard and Carl Rice.

Don is survived by his seven children, Duane (Janice) Beissel of Hastings, Floyd (Ray) Beissel of Apple Valley, Kevin (Jeff) Beissel of Prior Lake, Randy (Roxy) Beissel of Hastings, Allen (Teresa) Beissel of Hastings, Karla Green of Hastings, and Donna (Gary) Beissel of Hampton; nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Beard, Joe (Jeanette) Beissel, Marcelline Rice, Rosie (Bob) Utz, Ben (Joan) Beissel, Irene (Melvin) Brochman, and Larry (LuAnn) Beissel; sister-inlaw, Diane Beissel; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., and to a reception immediately following the service, all at church on Saturday.
