Don’t miss the visitor

Some of you are awaiting a visit from your Amazon or FedEx deliverer. Some are awaiting a visit from your family over the Summer. Some are awaiting the visit from your guests that you’ve invited for dinner this weekend. The key part of the story is, don’t miss your visitor when they arrive.

Did you know that so many people of Jesus’ day missed the very profound visit that God did through Christ on the earth? They had God standing right in the room with them and they missed the moment.

Luke 19:41–44 (NIV) As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

They had God in the flesh, standing right in front of them, and they missed Him. They simply diminished His value, His assignment, and His impact. Many of us are missing all that God has in store for us, because we’ve been distracted by life’s demands. Our jobs, our entertainment, our relatives all have demanded our attention and our life-giving visitor, Jesus Christ, goes unnoticed. What’s keeping you from seeing what God has in store for you? What distraction keeps you from seeing God in your Christian neighbor?

My prayer for you is that your package arrives in good condition but also that you recognize when God is visiting your home through a friend, a neighbor or even one who at first seems like a stranger.
