Tina Folch announces bid for House Seat

Tina Folch announced Thursday she is a candidate for the newly-created House District 41B which includes Hastings, Denmark and Nininger townships, and parts of Cottage Grove.

“I look forward to the upcoming campaign and to talking to voters throughout the district,” said Folch, who currently serves as the First Ward representative on the Hastings City Council. “I will focus on being a moderate voice for our area and for working with members from both sides of the aisle on important issues.” Issues include transportation infrastructure, education, health care, public safety, small business development, housing and the environment.

“Our area needs a strong voice to represent them in St. Paul,” she said. “Too often the partisan divide means that nothing gets done to benefit Minnesota. We need less chaos and disruption, and more discussion and solutions to the challenges we face.”

Folch was first elected to the City Council in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. She has worked with local businesses to navigate the pandemic challenges, advocated for clean water, equitable housing options and initiatives to strengthen our local communities.

Folch grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and History, as well as a M.A. in Public Administration and Management. She has two sons, Chase, 20, who plays Junior League hockey for the St. Cloud Norsemen and Brenden, 18, is a senior at HHS. Folch works for the City of Red Wing.

“Our schools need someone who has first-hand ex- perience with the challenges of the past two years and less drama and conflict. For too long, our schools have been underfunded, which puts the burdens of quality education on the backs of property taxpayers. This needs to change.”

The new state House seat was announced last month as part of the once-a-decade redistricting required by population changes from the census.
