A 48-year-old Cottage Grove man named Otis Donnel Shipp is facing a charge of 2nd degree murder with intent – not premeditated under state statute 609.19.1 (1), after police allege that he shot a food delivery driver last week.
Shipp, whose listed address on the jail booking report is 8792 Ironwood Avenue in Cottage Grove, turned himself in to the county jail November 24. He remained in custody as of the morning of Monday, November 29.
The food delivery driver allegedly shot by Shipp, was delivering to someone else’s house at the time that the shooting occurred, as confirmed by Cottage Grove Deputy Director of Public Safety Greg Rinzel.
“It was someone else’s house,” Rinzel said of the neighborhood food delivery.
Rinzel further stated that Shipp had decided to invoke his right to remain silent, and that any possible rationale, is unknown at present.
“The suspect chose to invoke his right to remain silent,” Rinzel shared Monday. “No idea as to rationale at this point.”
Following the shooting, the delivery driver drove several blocks to a gas station off the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and Highway 61, being airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
